Perparing your Resume
- Wherever possible, explain your experience and achievements in bullet form.
- Highlight your major achievements first so the prospective employer has an understanding of your level of expertise and achievements.
- Focus on the detail of your most recent positions first, working back in time i.e. 2009, 2008, 2007, etc. If your experience spans more than 10 years, do not elaborate on those jobs. Provide just a run down of company name, dates worked and job description.
- If you have any interests outside of work, also list those again using bullet points. Employers like to have well balanced people who are able to contribute both professionally and socially.
- Two referees' names should be provided and include correct contact details. Mention your relationship to the referee and the length of time you have worked together.
- Your resume should look something like this:
- Personal details
- Education/training
- Professional experience
- Security clearance
- Other interests
- Referees
- The language you use must be sharp and concise. Where ever possible start with a verb which indicates to the employer that you have experience, for example Coordinated, Conducted, Developed, Implemented etc.
